a perfect day on the water
On water marine discovery
Our custom-designed boat with a private skipper is available for discovering the bays, beaches and marine environment of the area.
The Experience
Your private marine discovery unfolds as an intimate exploration of the waters surrounding Picnic Island, guided by your experienced local skipper.
Departing from the island aboard your dedicated vessel, you’ll navigate the sheltered channels between granite headlands, where—if you’re lucky—playful Australian fur seals or bottlenose dolphins may appear. Your skipper will share stories, knowledge, and local lore as you enjoy the sea breeze, observe the intricate tidal ecosystems, and witness the dramatic meeting of the Southern Ocean and Freycinet’s characteristic pink granite coastline.
Weather and wildlife dictate each journey’s unique character—you might encounter migrating whales during their seasonal passage, witness sea eagles fishing from towering clifftops, or anchor in a secluded bay where the only sounds are the gentle lapping of waves and the calls of seabirds returning to their roosts.
Freycinet Peninsula
One of Tasmania’s most breathtaking natural masterpieces.
Here, ancient pink granite mountains rise dramatically from pristine white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. This protected wilderness, established as Tasmania’s first national park in 1916, encompasses the iconic Wineglass Bay—consistently ranked among the world’s most beautiful beaches—alongside a network of secluded coves, rugged coastal walks, and diverse ecosystems that support everything from wombats and echidnas to soaring sea eagles.
The peninsula’s unique geology, carved by millions of years of wind and wave action, creates a landscape of extraordinary contrasts: the imposing Hazards mountains that glow pink at sunrise and sunset, sheltered bays, and coastal heathlands ablaze with wildflowers in spring.
What makes Freycinet truly special is its accessibility to wilderness experiences—within minutes, visitors can transition from easy coastal strolls to challenging mountain climbs, from intimate wildlife encounters to expansive ocean vistas, all within a landscape that remains largely unchanged since the first peoples walked these shores thousands of years ago.
